Keep Weekly Highlights of your work to succeed
Writing a weekly summary of what you did in work can be extremely helpful and makes a lot of difference when you reflect at end of quarter or half
I started this practice when I joined Meta and this was one of the most valuable advice I got from my onboarding buddy. He mentioned that that there will be plenty of things - diffs, tasks, SEVs, docs, trackers etc etc which you will work with and it is equally important to keep track of things you worked on.
Your manager only knows 10% of things you work on and it is your responsibility they know the other 90%. You don’t want to be the person who worked on a lot of impactful stuff but when writing self review, has trouble finding links and evidences to support your work.
This article is not about using a particular tool or a notion template. Even a google doc with bullet points work, but it is to make you realize the importance of this habit in your career growth.
The short-term memory only retains information for three minutes; unless it is committed to paper, it lives forever then
Keeping a weekly highlight of your work can help in following ways:
Provides a record of accomplishments
Writing a summary of what you accomplished during the week allows you to keep track of what you've done.
This can be useful for performance evaluations or when creating a portfolio of work.
Helps with time management
By summarizing what you've accomplished during the week, you can identify which tasks took up the most time and which ones you were able to complete quickly.
This can help you manage your time more efficiently in the future.
Promotes accountability
When you write a weekly summary of your work, you are holding yourself accountable for what you've accomplished.
This can be useful for motivating yourself to get more done and to stay on track with your goals.
Facilitates communication
Sharing your weekly summary with your manager or team members can be a great way to keep everyone on the same page.
It can also help you identify areas where you might need additional support or guidance.
Helps with reflection and improvement
Reflecting on what you've accomplished during the week can help you identify areas where you've excelled and areas where you could improve.
This can help you set goals for the upcoming week or quarter or half.
Every Friday at the end of working day, I have a 30 mins slot on my calendar with subject “Hemant’s Weekly Highlights”. At the end of half, when I have to write my self review, I have my weekly list of achievements along with all links and evidences supporting the impact I made. This makes the self review writing process quick and easy.

This is very useful advice. Dedicating a time slot to catchup and document breifly everything you did during the can really help in writing a great self-review. I struggle to keep that brag document. But I think this advice is practical. I'll start doing that. Thank you for sharing Hemant!
Excellent advice. 👏I know from experience that in a fast environment you simply forget all the good work you do because you’re already working on the next thing.
